Even in my darkest times while living in Australia (it’s true, I used to complain more than I should have, it’s really not that bad), there was always one thing about it that gave me hope in a better life, in the existence of a higher purpose: Spud Bar. Something as simple as a baked potato with all the filing one could wish is the perfect evolution of “fast food” that also doesn’t make me feel like I’ve just drank antifreeze.
So think of the joy when I realized the Spud Bar has a London equivalent: the Potato Project.
Location: The Potato Project, Soho, London
Type: British
Camera: Nikkon 3300, Nikkor 50mm lens
While The Potato Project is slightly different from Spud Bar’s “build your own Mr Potato” system, there’s quite a few options on the menu, whether you would like a baked sweet potato or a regular potato, there’s a potato out there for each and every one of you. Prices are also incredibly good – you’ll get about everything for around 6£. We went for the Sweet Potato, Mozzarella, Tomato & Pesto (the vegetarian option), a beautifully cooked potato as it was soft but the consistency was still well maintained. I’ve recently found a passion for pesto as well, which is a great way of flavouring a dish without over-complicating it.
The naked brick interior gives the Potato Project a lovely rustic feeling, and it overlooks Noel Street which is great for people watchers like myself.
Grade: Sainthood
